The European Committe for the Valve Industry, called CEIR was formed in 1959 as European federation of national manufacturers associations. CEIR gathers together almoust 100 % of European manufacturers in the field of valves and fittings. CEIR supports the principles of a free economy and private enterprise in Europe as well as on a global basis. The CEIR represents the common economic, technical and scientific interests of the European valve industries, in particular towards international authorities and economic and commercial circles.
The General Assembly consists of all members of CEIR. It is to be held once a year, presided over by the CEIR President or the Vice-President.
CEIR is administered and controlled by a Board, which has to effect all decisions taken by the General Assembly and to deal with all matters of urgency occurring throughout the year. The Board also takes decisions about the financial needs of the association, it determines adequate yearly contributions to be paid by each member association and controls the use made of them.
Within the organisation of CEIR there are Product Commissions (PC). The Product Commissions deal with standardization, market, production and technical questions. In particular the Product Commissions define the standardization policy, approve the annual report and the yearly revised work programs of the Technical Commissions (TC) and issue directives for there operation.
CEIR membership is available to any national association of valve manufacturers in Europe. In those European countries where there is no such relevant association individual companies may apply for CEIR membership upon special request. CEIR is a non-profit organisation. Its budget is based on real costs per annum and is controlled by the CEIR Board. The General Assembly fixes the yearly contributions to the budget to be made by members.
